Consortium Luxembourg is happy to announce that we are now offering access to a selection of Facet Publishing eBooks.
Facet Publishing, the commercial publishing and bookselling arm of CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, is the leading publisher of books for library and information professionals worldwide.
As a start, we purchased 41 eBooks all dealing with aspects of librarianship, library management, electronic libraries, archives, etc.

The eBooks can be accessed via the Ebsco eBook collection platform. You may search and read the books online, but also download and borrow the books for a limited time (maximum 7 days) and transfer them to a portable device.

Materials science in Luxembourg
With its strategic location and firm commitment to investing in research, Luxembourg has ambitious plans to become a significant player in the international research arena. Jens Kreisel, Ludger Wirtz and Marc Schiltz describe this in a commentary published in the current edition of Nature Materials.
The Luxembourgish government is serious about diversifying its economy, and in turn laying the foundations for a sustainable knowledge-based society. A world-class research infrastructure is central to this vision, and the government is investing heavily to achieve this. Since 2000, public spending on research and development has increased from less than 0.1% to 0.6% of GDP. More importantly, the country is committed to spending further and is aiming to reach around 2.5% of GDP for total private and public expenditure by 2020, which would bring it in line with most other advanced economies in the world.

Cairn : Une interface améliorée
Plus claire, plus aérée, plus facile d’utilisation, la nouvelle version de Cairn.info vous permet d’accéder plus aisément aux articles que vous recherchez. Elle améliore aussi le confort de lecture. Les utilisateurs de Cairn.info sont très divers ; leurs comportements de lecture également. Avec cette nouvelle version, Cairn tente de répondre au mieux aux différentes attentes.
Une navigation optimisée
Cairn.info s’adapte aux nouveaux usages (notamment à l’apparition de nouveaux terminaux portables) : la nouvelle version de notre site est plus claire et aérée. Elle comprend notamment un espace de lecture élargi pour une meilleure lisibilité.
Comme certains sites de presse quotidienne, Cairn.info s’enrichit d’un nouveau mode de lecture, le mode « zen » : le texte des articles de revues et des chapitres d’ouvrages que nous diffusons peut ainsi être affiché en plein écran, en ôtant tout ce qui, sur le web, peut gêner la lecture. Le lecteur se trouve alors dans des dispositions idéales pour se concentrer et assimiler de nouvelles connaissances. Lire de façon prolongée sur écran n’a jamais été plus facile.
La saisie semi-automatique : chercher mieux, chercher plus
Le moteur de recherche évolue grâce à l’intégration d’un outil de saisie semi-automatique. Il est désormais à même de vous suggérer automatiquement les expressions, les titres de revues ou les noms d’auteurs qui correspondent à votre recherche.
Les « encyclopédies de poche » disponibles en format HTML
Les collections des « Que sais-je ? » (Presses Universitaires de France) et celle des « Repères » (La Découverte) sont proposées depuis plusieurs années sur le portail Cairn ; elles sont ainsi accessibles au format numérique dans de nombreux centres de documentation, bibliothèques et universités. Mais, jusqu’à présent, ces « encyclopédies de poche » étaient uniquement disponibles via un feuilleteur ; désormais elles sont aussi disponibles au format HTML. La lecture est ainsi plus confortable, particulièrement à partir des tablettes et des smartphones.

The new SciELO Citation Index
Consortium Luxembourg’s access to Web of Science has been enhanced by a new searchable index: the SciELO Citation Index. You are now able to search and view critically important regional content with international impact.
SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) is a program of the Sao Paulo Research Foundation for the cooperative publishing of open access journals on the internet. It is supported by the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development and is a partnership with the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information. SciELO content includes regional journals from Latin American and the Caribbean as well as titles from Spain, Portugal and South Africa.
Continuing to expand Thomson Reuters’ content from rapidly emerging and increasingly influential regions, all Web of Science users now have access to scholarly literature in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities published in leading open access journals from Latin America, Portugal, Spain, the Caribbean and South Africa.

New ScienceDirect and Scopus interface now live
The new ScienceDirect and Scopus interfaces have been redesigned to allow for a more productive search and discovery experience. The primary goal of the interface redesigns was to streamline the number of steps a user needs to take to accomplish the most common tasks.
Specific enhancements include:
- Implementing a new visual style resulting in a cleaner overall user interface
- Applying more action-driven functionality with some features only appearing when a user performs an action
- Enhancing the ability to export directly to reference management tools such as Mendeley
